Therapist Unmasked —Virtual Peer Consultation Group

The Structure

Each session will start with a brief meditation to ground into presence and connection with one another.

Then our group will consult around 2-3 anonymized cases. Every session, different members of our group will be selected to share, on a rotation. For those who are sharing, you will bring:

1. The Conflict

What is the main issue that you are navigating with the client? Provide necessary background.

2. Your Reflections

What feels stuck? Is there a risk you want to take with this client? What insights do you have, so far? What interventions have you tried? What is your relationship to the issue? How are you impacted, what are you feeling, what needs are emergent? What feels tender, curious, activating?

3. Your specific question

Construct a specific question oriented around how you would like the support of our group.

Meet your facilitator, Hannah.

Hi there, you’re likely here because my work on Meeting Myself Again. I’m glad we found each other! My name is Hannah Ciordas.

In 2023, I went through what can only really be described as some kind of nervous break down. I was going through a separation, the loss of the family I had planned to have, and navigating a massive unprecedented wave of childhood trauma triggered by the whole experience. At the same time, I was working as a therapist in the domestic violence sector, being exposed to vicarious trauma for hours every day.

I couldn’t sleep for over three hours straight for two years. My heart raced constantly. I struggled with intrusive thoughts. Any form of intimacy terrified me. I no longer felt connected or trusting in many of the relationships I once considered stable and safe.

So, I did what is recommended and went to therapy.

What I ultimately learned from talk therapy was that I could effectively intellectualize my emotions. However, I had difficulty staying in my body and experiencing my feelings at a sensory level. I was stuck in an addiction to controlling the way I experienced emotions through obsessive self-soothing behaviours, disassociation, numbing, obsessive thinking, and other strategies I hade developed to escape myself. The result was chronic anxiety, severe insomnia, and an exhaustion around “showing up” for healing work that didn’t seem to be helping me.

In 2024, I attended a somatic group that changed my life. A year later I began working with a somatic practitioner weekly. I dove head first into the world of radical aliveness, authentic relating, breathwork, circling and other more “fringe” body-based practices. Somatics helped me to gradually expose myself to the experience of staying in my body, while having difficult feelings. But this time, not alone; with loving, kind, support.

My work as a group facilitator is based on a combination of formal training and my own experiences in the room, as a client.

My hope is that the offerings I share can be allies for you in your process, a source of community, and a catalyst towards living as the most free version of you.
